1) ADALAJ STEP WELL ( ADALAJ NI VAV )
One of the most popular and unique Step wells in the Country…
ADALAJ NI VAV was built in 1498. Initiated by the then King RANA VEER SINGH, it was completed by MEHMUD BEGDA, the King who defeated & killed the RANA in Battle.
It was on a special request by the Queen RANI ROODA BAI, that the Vav was built and completed. 5 STOREYS deep and with 3 Sides Open to Sunlight and Air, this Step Well is a beautiful blend of INDO – ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE with intricately carved stone Pillars and Jharokhas ( Windows ).
This is a NOT TO BE MISSED place for those who love History & Heritage
2) SARKHEJ ROZA
The Mosque & Tomb of SUFI SAINT ‘AHMED GANJ KHATTU’… SARKHEJ ROZA is located about 7 Kms South West of Ahmedabad , in a tiny Village called MAKARBA.
SUFI CULTURE was given a lot of impetus by Saint Ahmed Ganj Khattu and this Roza was made in His Memory, where He was Buried.
It was on advice of this Sufi Saint that King Ahmedshah Badshah made the City of Ahmedabad on the banks of Sabarmati.
The King Mehmud Begda started the construction of this Beautiful Architectural Wonder in 1445, which was completed by His son Qutbuddin Ahmed Shah in 1451. Mehmud Begda is also Buried there, as He loved this place so much. The Architects of this magnificent monument were 2 Persian Brothers – Azam & Muazzam Khan.
SARKHEJ ROZA is again a beautiful amalgamation of Hindu, Muslim & Jain Architecture, which can be evidently seen in the Carvings inside the complex. A soothing and serene Mosque – Tomb Complex which should NOT be missed.
3) AKSHARDHAM TEMPLE
DIVINE ABODE OF GOD… This is the exact meaning of the word “AKSHARDHAM” and you will feel the positive celestial vibes when you visit this breathtaking Temple Complex in Gandhinagar ( Capital City of Gujarat ), located about 25 Kms from Ahmedabad. The Akshardham Mandir is the Heart & Soul of the SWAMINARAYAN AKSHARDHAM COMPLEX… This beautiful Temple, a Tribute to BHAGWAN SWAMINARAYAN is intricately carved out of Sandstone and is 108 Ft Tall with 97 Pillars, 17 Ornate Beams and 220 Stone Beams. The Complex, Blessed with 265 Murtis ( statues ) of God was Inaugurated on 30th October, 1992, this ABODE OF GOD was Inspired by H.H. YOGIJI MAHARAJ and made by His Holiness PRAMUKH SWAMI MAHARAJ of BAPS. This serene Temple Complex is so beautifully surrounded by excellently landscaped and manicured Gardens. One can easily spend an entire day in this amazing man made Heaven and in the evening, Witness the enthralling WATER SHOW, a 45 minutes extravaganza which is to be seen to be believed. AKSHARDHAM is Open between Tuesday to Sunday… 10 Am to 7.30 Pm

4) INDRODA NATURE PARK
Run by GEER ( Gujarat Ecological Education and Research ) FOUNDATION… The INDRODA NATURE PARK lies on the banks of Sabarmati River on the outskirts of Gandhinagar.
These 400 Hectares of nature’s bounty immediately transcends you into the lap of Mother Nature. The DINOSAUR & FOSSIL PARK inside this lush green campus is of excellent Education and Information value, about those massive Creatures which roamed and ruled the world Millions of years ago. No wonder this Park is referred to as the JURRASIC PARK OF INDIA and is One of the only two Dinosaur Museums in the Country.
Apart from the Dinosaur Park, INDRODA also has a Mini Zoo with Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Spotted Deers, Antelopes, Nil Gais, Monkeys, Reptiles, A Snake Enclosure and much more…
The Massive Skeleton of the amazingly Well kept BLUE WHALE is amazing to see… Closed on Mondays. It is Open rest of the Week between 10 Am to 5 Pm.

5) MAHAKALI VAD
The MAHAKALI VAD ( Banyan Tree ) is one of the largest Banyan Trees in Gujarat, maybe second to the famous KABIR VAD…
This Banyan Tree is said to be over 500 Years Old and is still growing and spreading itself by about 5 Metres every year.
A 60 Kms drive from Ahmedabad will take you to the quaint Village of Kantharpura where this mammoth VAD is located. The Girth of the main Tree is wide enough to house the TEMPLE of MAHAKALI in it.
It is an enjoyable place to go to, the drive is serene with the awesome Gujarat Roads. Gandhinagar, the Capital of Gujarat is in close vicinity to the Mahakali vad.
Monkeys romp all over the place, as the Vad is their abode.Since this is an Open Site, there are no timing restrictions and is Open all days of the week.

6) THOL LAKE
HOW ABOUT VISITNG A BIRD SANCTUARY CLOSE TO AHMEDABAD ??
Well we have the THOL LAKE which is just a 40 Km drive from Ahmedabad in the Thol Village in Kadi in Mehsana District.
This is an Artifical lake which has become a natural habitat to over 150 Species of Birds and about 60 % of the Birds are Water Birds.
Migratory Birds are there in large numbers too, they Nest and Breed in the Lake’s periphery.
What was constructed as an Irrigation tank in 1912 was Declared as The “Thol Bird Sanctuary” in 1988. This is basically a fresh water lake surrounded by marshes, which is very convenient for the Birds to nest & Breed.
You will enjoy the sight of the magnificent FLAMINGOES & SARUS CRANE in this lake which is spread over 38,000 Acres and is the Second most prominent Bird Nesting Ground after the NALSAROVAR LAKE.
The Best Time to go to Thol lake is early morning or evening. The Ticket Charges are 40/- per person on Weekdays and 50/- per person on Weekends.
There are Camera Charges too for High End cameras and different slabs for Vehicle Entry in case you want to take you vehicle inside. You should have a Good SET of BINOCULARS for clean viewing of Birds.
DO VISIT THIS WATER BIRD SANCTUARY and spend a few hours listening to the KILKAARI ( sound ) of BIRDS !
7) KANZARI DEER PARK
The Kanzari Deer Park is located just about 7 – 8 Kms from the Thol Lake…
So this can be a Combined Trip to KANZARI DEER PARK & THOL LAKE.
Situated in the Kanzari Village, this Deer Sanctuary is home to a large number of BLACK BUCKS along with NIGAI and lots of PEACOCKS in the periphery.
The Best Time to visit this Deer Park is between 6 AM to 9 AM and in the evening between 3 PM to 6 PM. There is No Ticket since this area is Open, No Gates.
8) NALSAROVAR BIRD SANCTUARY
WELCOME to the Largest BIRD SANCTUARY of GUJARAT !
NAL SAROVAR is a shallow Wetland spread over Thousands of Acres, Home to over 210 Species of Birds out of which about 140 Species are Water Birds and 70 Migratory Birds from Countries as far as SIBERIA, OMAN, UAE.
This Wetland was Declared as a BIRD SANCTUARY in April 1969, by the Government of Gujarat.
A drive of about 64 Kms from Ahmedabad, near the Sanand Village can enable You to witness the Magnanimous GREATER FALMINGOES in their glory and IF you are lucky enough, you can watch their TAKE OFF FLIGHT which is literally like an Airplane taking off from the runway. PELICANS, DUCKS, HERONS & STORKS are other Birds of attraction here…
This Vast Water Wetland has around 36 BETS ( Tiny Islands ) which the Locals live on and they serve delicious Local Cuisine which you can enjoy.
The Larger Birds are way too deep and prefer to stay away from limelight…
The Boatmen who know the lake well, can take you closer. BINOCULARS are a must.
The ENTRY CHARGES on Weekdays are INR 75/- per person and INR 85/- on Saturday & Sunday. The Timing is between 6 AM to 5.30 PM.
Winter Months are the best season since Migratory Birds are in Huge Numbers…
The Boating Charges are around INR 220/- per person and app. 1300/- for a Boat of 6.
The NALSAROVAR is a haven for BIRD LOVERS with patience… !
